Project backstory

Spark DNA’s founders came to us with an idea. They’d spent their careers in medical administration and wanted to effect the industry in a bigger way.

Their idea was to create a DNA testing company that truly puts its customer’s first in every respect.

Through embracing digital technology, creating an unparalleled user experience, and offering pay-over-time options for services that are cost-prohibitive for people on the margins, they set out to redefine the DNA testing experience for all–and he wanted us to be the ones to help design and build it.

Our approach

The problem we set out to help solve was multi-faceted.

First, the existing options for legal and informational DNA testing all have one thing in common–their user experiences are lacking. They generally aren’t customer-centric, and navigating their offerings can be a chore.

Second, the services they provide are pricey without a way to pay them off over time–limiting the potential customer-base.

Finally, their reliance on legacy tech requires more overhead and creates the potential for mix-ups in an industry that needs to be air-tight.

Deliverables in detail

For Spark DNA, our services spanned the gamut of brand building. We started with brand and product naming, based on our initial discovery workshop.

We designed the UX from the e-commerce experience to the logistics behind getting tests to and from the customers, we developed the entire look, feel, and tone of voice of the brand, including specific brand messaging like taglines and marketing copy.

And on the visual side, we designed and executed the complete visual experience including their website, print materials, packaging, and more, down to the smallest details like email signatures and business cards.

The results

This was the kind of project we love to be a part of. We were able to build it from the ground up, working with the Spark DNA team each step of the way to make sure we hit the mark with each deliverable.

In the end, they were ultimately pleased with the results. The aesthetic is true to their brand and their audience, not only in the look but in ease of use and clarity.
